Washington, DC – February 7, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Kevin Cramer joined Senators Hoeven and Heitkamp in sending a letter to Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan, urging the HUD to allocate additional Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds to the City of Minot and surrounding areas for continued disaster recovery in the region.

“ The City of Minot and the surrounding areas are still recovering from the devastating flood of the Souris River in 2011,” Cramer said. “ It is critical the federal government provides the funds necessary to reconstruct the community so families and neighbors can return to their normal lives,” Cramer continued. “The ongoing effort by local and state officials and departments have made the reconstructive efforts move quicker than expected. I look forward to working with Senators Hoeven and Heitkamp, as well as Secretary Donovan, to provide assistance to the people of Minot and restore the communities.”

The 2011 Souris River flood overtopped levees in Minot, North Dakota causing the evacuation of about 11,000 residents. Furthermore, 4,100 homes were damaged in a total population of just under 45,000 people in Minot.
