BISMARCK, ND – November 22, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Grants are available from the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA) to renovate properties occupied by people with physical disabilities.
“The Rehab Accessibility Program can help our disabled citizens remain in their homes,” Gov. Dalrymple said. “These grants are available in order to remove physical barriers and to make other renovations for improved access and mobility.”
The Industrial Commission approved distribution of up to $50,000 of NDHFA’s reserves for the rehab program. Eligible improvements include installation of wheelchair ramps, door levers, walk-in/roll-in showers or grab bars and widening of doorways. The funds can be used to upgrade either single- or multi-family housing units.
“The improvements made must address the accessibility needs of the disabled household member,” said Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem.
“Rehab Accessibility Program grants complement the North Dakota Housing’s mission to provide safe, decent and affordable housing for all North Dakotans,” said Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring. Grant recipients can earn no more than 80 percent of area median income, which varies by county. The maximum qualifying income for an individual in Burleigh and Morton counties is $40,000 per year.
A maximum of $4,000 may be awarded with a limit of one grant per property in a fiscal year. Matching funds of at least 25 percent of the total project cost are required.
