HOUSING CHALLENGES ARE CONFERENCE FOCUS

BISMARCK, ND – January 10, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — The 20th Annual Statewide Housing Conference, “It Starts with a Home,” will be held Feb. 9-10, 2011, at the Ramkota Hotel in Bismarck, ND.

“The event brings together community leaders and housing industry professionals from across North Dakota, providing them with a unique opportunity to hone their skills and discuss the ways that we can address our state’s housing challenges,” said Mike Anderson, NDHFA executive director.

A presenter that entertains as he teaches, Mike McKinley is the keynote speaker Wednesday morning. The impact that the energy industry is having on North Dakota is the topic of discussion at Wednesday’s luncheon. The second day of the event will begin with Dr. Ed Seifried talking about the economy in the post subprime era.

Governor Jack Dalrymple, Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem, Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Regional Director Rick Garcia and North Dakota state legislators have all been invited to participate in the event.

The conference’s concurrent session topics include: housing development basics, understanding cash flow and the self-employed borrower, community development best practices, a balanced approach to addressing housing needs, communicating your housing message, Section 8 and Low Income Housing Tax Credit property manager training, and a panel discussion on the current challenges being faced by builders, real estate agents and lenders.

A networking reception on Wednesday evening will provide conference attendees with an opportunity to interact with the event’s sponsors and exhibitors.

At Thursday’s luncheon, NDHFA will present its Champion of Affordable Housing awards, honoring individuals and organizations who have made exceptional contributions to affordable housing in North Dakota. Lenders participating in the Agency’s homeownership programs will also be recognized.

North Dakota Real Estate Commission and North Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners continuing education program applications have been submitted. Credits will be offered upon approval of the program by the accrediting bodies.
