Rural Rehab Loans Keep Housing Viable

DEVILS LAKE, ND – July 6, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — The Lake Region Corporation, a nonprofit Devils Lake organization dedicated to providing residential services for people with disabilities, recently received funding for some essential repairs through the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency’s Rural Rehabilitation Loan Program.

“The goal of North Dakota Housing’s rehab loan program is for rural communities – who often rely heavily on existing housing stock – to be able to make the repairs or improvements necessary for a property to remain viable,” said Jolene Kline, NDHFA planning and housing development director.

The LRC received a loan of $40,890; financing the installation of crawlspaces, moisture control systems, sump pumps and drain tile in two different eight-unit buildings.

The NDHFA’s program provides funds for the rehabilitation of single- or multi-family properties located in communities of less than 20,000 population. The maximum loan is limited to 75 percent of the project cost.
