Delegation Announces $11.65 Million HUD Affordable Housing Grants for North Dakota Native American Communities

WASHINGTON, DC – June 13, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Senators John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp and Congressman Kevin Cramer today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded almost $11.65 million to North Dakota Native American communities to support affordable housing projects and activities.

“Ensuring all North Dakotans have access to safe, affordable housing is a high priority for us,” said the delegation. “These grants will help to provide our tribal communities with the resources they need to develop much needed housing and build safer, stronger communities.”

The funding comes through the Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) program and will be awarded to:

Fort Berthold Housing Authority, New Town $2,666,813
Spirit Lake Housing Authority, Fort Totten $1,944,629
Trenton Indian Housing Authority, Trenton $281,491
Turtle Mountain Housing Authority, Belcourt $6,755,782

IHBG funds are used by tribes and tribal housing authorities for housing development, housing services for eligible individuals and families, crime prevention and safety programs, and activities to solve affordable housing problems.
