BISMARCK – May 29, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — The North Dakota Industrial Commission has authorized the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA) to distribute more than $225,000 to organizations statewide through the North Helping Housing Across North Dakota (Helping HAND) program.
“Non-profit organizations use important programs like Helping HAND to help families keep their homes safe and warm,” said Governor Jack Dalrymple, who chairs the commission. “The program is a valuable resource ensuring all North Dakotans have adequate housing.”
“Community action agencies, tribal housing authorities and other nonprofit organizations that provide for the housing needs of low-income residents are eligible,” said Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring.
“The assistance provided through the program is more flexible than typical government programs, providing the grant recipients with a valuable financial resource that enables them to fill gaps and best respond to local needs,” said Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem.

Funded by NDHFA earnings, Helping HAND has leveraged more than $25 million in additional funds for the construction or rehabilitation of more than 4,300 housing units since 2000. The funds are most frequently used for housing rehabilitation projects.
Helping HAND grant recipients are encouraged to use program dollars to benefit the largest number of households possible. A local match of 25 percent is required.
