WASHINGTON, D.C. – September 22, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Senator John Hoeven, who serves on the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded a total of $625,000 to the City of West Fargo and the Fargo Police Department. The funds are made available through the DOJ’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Program, which supports the hiring of new officers, provides funds to rehire officers who were laid off due to budget cuts or rehire officers who were scheduled to be laid off because of budget reductions.

The funds are awarded as follows:

City of West Fargo – $375,000 – To hire three law enforcement officers
Fargo Police Department – $250,000 – To hire two law enforcement officers
“North Dakota’s population has grown, and with that growth we have also seen an increase in crime,” Hoeven said. “Today’s grants will allow the City of West Fargo and the Fargo Police Department to maintain their police force so that we can help to ensure the safety of communities in our state.”
