HUD Allocates More Than $20 Million to Support Affordable Housing for Tribes in North Dakota

WASHINGTON – February 18, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — Senator John Hoeven today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has allocated $20.4 million to assist Native American tribes in North Dakota with affordable housing activities. The funds are made available through HUD’s Indian Housing Block Grant program and can be used for housing services, management, crime prevention, safety and affordable housing development – which includes buying, building and rehabilitating housing.

“Adequate housing is vital for the well-being of our residents and the success of our communities,” Hoeven said. “These funds are part of our ongoing efforts to support the development of much-needed housing on reservations in our state and help meet the needs of the tribes’ members.”

The details of the allocations are as follows:

Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa: $7.5 million
Standing Rock Sioux Tribe: $5.2 million
Three Affiliated Tribes of Fort Berthold: $5.1 million
Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe: $2.6 million
