Heitkamp Announces Significant Federal Funding for Housing Assistance Programs in North Dakota

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 25, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, a member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs today announced more than $7 million in federal funding for three Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awards administered to the state of North Dakota.

“Because of our state’s economic boom and population growth, available and affordable housing has become a top priority in North Dakota,” said Heitkamp. “As a member of the Senate Banking and Housing Committee, I have worked to make sure that North Dakota families have access to safe and affordable housing regardless of income. This much-needed funding will help local housing advocates address the numerous housing challenges facing communities in our state.”

The funding is distributed to the following awards:

  • Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) – $3,609,246. The funds will help larger communities offer suitable housing and economic opportunities for low-income and moderate-income individuals.

 

  • Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) – $445,841. The funds will be used to improve and increase the number, conditions, quality, and operations of homeless shelters as well as assist with housing homeless individuals and families, and prevent individuals from becoming homeless.

 

  • HOME – $3,002,167. The funds will assist in expanding the amount of available, affordable housing to low-income families and individuals based on North Dakota’s needs.

The funds are provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
