Senator John Hoeven, a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded $250,000 to the University of North Dakota (UND) to fund research to improve energy generation by batteries and solar panels through studying how algae and similar plants absorb and use energy, as well as use oils from these plants for fuel.

Hoeven: USDA Awards More Than $900,000 in Grants, $1 Million Loan to Benson County...
Senator John Hoeven, who serves on the U.S. Senate Appropriations and Agriculture Committees, today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development has awarded two grants totaling $910,000 to Benson County to fund improvements to the City of Leeds’ sanitary sewer. Benson County also received a $1.08 million loan to support the project. The funds are made available through USDA’s Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program as well as its Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).
Hoeven: Bureau of Reclamation Issues Record of Decision for Northwest Area Water Supply Project
Senator John Hoeven today announced that the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has signed the Record of Decision (ROD) for the Northwest Area Water Supply (NAWS) Project, selecting the preferred alternative which uses Lake Sakakawea as the primary water supply. Hoeven has been pressing the federal agencies to sign the ROD and advance the project.
