Hoeven Announces $250,000 Grant to UND for Renewable Energy Research
WASHINGTON – August 28, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Senator John Hoeven, a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded $250,000 to the University of North Dakota (UND) to fund research to improve energy generation by batteries and solar panels through studying how algae and similar plants absorb and use energy, as well as use oils from these plants for fuel.
“America needs an all-of-the-above energy plan to ensure a strong and secure future,” Hoeven said. “Today’s NSF grant to UND will fund research to develop new energy technologies and fuels that will help us create jobs and economic growth for North Dakota and the nation.”
The research project is part of the NSF’s International Research Experience for Students (IRES) program, which is a collaboration among UND, California State Polytechnic University at Pomona and the Energy Research Institute at the University of Leeds, U.K.
